Baku Port: +10 Mt and 300k TEU by end-2027

On 9 September 2026 at the CICA conference “The Role of Ports in Regional Connectivity” in Baku, Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) Chairman Rovshan Rustamov outlined Baku International Sea Trade Port expansion targets.

Current stated throughput is 15 Mt per year. Phase two aims to add about 10 Mt more — toward ~25 Mt. On containers: design capacity was 100k TEU; after the port–ADY merger, operational efficiency lifted it to 150k TEU; by end-2026 ~200k TEU looks realistic; by end-2027 the goal is about 300k TEU.

Rustamov also stressed the unified port–rail management model: fewer barriers between sea and rail, shorter coordination, faster cargo movement. The forum discussed digital corridors, smoother borders and port coordination — including against falling Caspian levels and global trade disruption. Port authorities of CICA members adopted a joint Final Document.

For OOG / project cargo, the TEU figure is a corridor container signal, not a lowbed shortcut. The practical gain is higher overall Alat/Baku throughput and a tighter ferry/Ro-Ro ↔ rail join. When planning a heavy Caspian exit, budget not only a vessel slot but aligned port and rail windows — the join ADY is pitching as the advantage.
