Khorgos and Alashankou: 12,473 China–Europe trains in eight months

China Railway Urumqi Bureau reported that in January–August 2026, 12,473 China–Europe (Central Asia) trains passed through the Khorgos and Alashankou rail ports (+5% year-on-year) with 25.1 million tonnes of cargo (+8.2%), both records (Seetao). Xinjiang rail freight reached 170 Mt (+4.2%). Shortest port clearance at Khorgos was cut to under 30 minutes. Khorgos runs 91 regular routes to 18 countries; Alashankou 129 lines to 21 countries. More than half of China’s China–Europe freight trains exit via Xinjiang — denser wagon, container and flatcar demand on the China–Kazakhstan rail border.
