Waiting time for trucks in the queue on the Nur Zholy – Khorgos direction has fallen from 30 days to three. Kazakhstan's Transport Minister Nurlan Sauranbayev announced this at a government meeting on 6 October 2026.
According to the minister, the result comes from digital solutions under the Digital Qazaqstan strategy. One of the key projects is the Smart Cargo platform, which combines data from 58 sources and allows international cargo to be tracked along the entire route. A digital transport passport with a single QR code has been introduced at the Nur Zholy checkpoint, with more than 11,000 passports issued so far. Cargo clearance speed has increased by 30%. The next step is integration with similar platforms in Azerbaijan and Russia.
The Nur Zholy road checkpoint is the main entry point for cargo from China, including oversized equipment for energy and industrial projects in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. Predictable border crossing times make it easier to plan lowbed trailer trips, permit validity periods and unloading schedules on site.
