According to the Chinese side, by 28 September more than 7,000 China – Europe (Asia) trains had passed through the Khorgos rail border crossing since the start of 2026, and cargo through the crossing exceeded 12 million tonnes. That day a train carrying machinery, auto parts and electronics left Khorgos for Moscow.

Xinjiang railway operators have sped up train handover at the junction with the Kazakh network: locomotive turnaround was cut from 7.2 to 4.3 hours, and broad-gauge arrivals hold steadily at more than 11 trains a day. Import orders are confirmed and documents checked before a train arrives, so transshipment, marshalling, inspection and release run in parallel; gantry cranes on tracks 6 and 7 have been upgraded. Khorgos customs, through real-time data exchange with the railway and advance checks, has cut train clearance time by more than 50%.

Khorgos now serves 91 China – Europe (Asia) train routes to 18 countries and 46 cities and regions, carrying more than 200 types of goods. For shipments in wagons and in containers on flatcars from China to Almaty, Astana and the regions of Kazakhstan, as well as to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran and Turkmenistan, this shows the crossing working steadily through the peak season.
