According to Kazakhstan's Ministry of Transport, in data published on 9 October 2026, 69.4 million tonnes of cargo were shipped to foreign markets by rail in January–September, 7.1% (4.6 million t) more than a year earlier (64.8 million t). Total rail freight reached 241.7 million tonnes, compared with 233.7 million tonnes in the first nine months of 2025 (+3.4%).

Iron ore grew fastest at 10.1 million t (+32.1%). Grain shipments reached 8.3 million t (+17.6%), with most of the growth going to Central Asia, Afghanistan and China. Fertiliser exports were 1.2 million t (+9%), to Belarus, Brazil, Uzbekistan, Bulgaria and Afghanistan, and coal 25.8 million t (+2.1%).

Growing export shipments increase demand for wagons, locomotive traction and network capacity. For shippers, it is a reason to plan wagon and container-flatcar supply in advance, including via Khorgos/Altynkol and Dostyk and onward to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran and Turkmenistan.
