Weight and size limits: 76,000 excess cases; controls and automatic recording to be tightened

Deputy Transport Minister Maksat Kaliakparov, responding to a parliamentary inquiry, reported weight and size excess statistics, Zakon.kz wrote on 3 November 2026. Of about 76,000 recorded cases, more than 30,000 involve foreign vehicles whose data are missing from available information systems. Another 15,000-plus cases concern buses: under the rules, administrative liability is not applied on the basis of automated weighing station (ASI) materials.

For the remaining cases, preparing administrative files is difficult because photo materials do not meet requirements and registration plates cannot be recognised. Deliberate damage to ASI equipment by arson has been recorded in Akmola, Karaganda, Turkestan and Zhetysu regions — investigations and restoration work are under way.

On 2 November, Interfax-Kazakhstan, citing the government’s press office, reported that Kazakhstan will strengthen weight and size checks to protect road surfaces and is considering a law on automatic recording of violations.

For oversized moves on lowbeds this is a practical cue: verify the special permit, the agreed route and the actual mass and dimensions before departure. Gateway Logistics operates 45 t / 5-axle and 90 t / 10-axle lowbeds and 145 m³ road-trains with route surveys and permit handling on the China — Kazakhstan — Caspian — Caucasus — Türkiye corridors.
