Large-scale construction of Uzbekistan's first nuclear power plant in Jizzakh region will begin in 2027, Rosatom Director General Alexey Likhachev said; Kun.uz published the report on 26 October 2026. The on-site workforce is expected to grow from around 1,000 people today to a peak of 12,000–13,000.

The project combines two small modular reactor units with two larger power units. By the end of 2026, crews are due to complete the foundation slabs for the reactor buildings of the two small units, and work is also due to begin on the control building, reactor buildings and turbine halls. Rosatom plans to complete engineering surveys and design work for the large-scale plant next year.

Rosatom estimates that the share of work and expertise localised in Uzbekistan could reach 40%. Around 350 students are studying at the Tashkent branch of MEPhI, and about 900 more at universities in Russia.

For Gateway Logistics this is a long-term reference point for project cargo to Uzbekistan: heavy and oversized equipment for power facilities, multimodal routes via Khorgos, Altynkol and Dostyk, road legs on 45 t / 5-axle and 90 t / 10-axle lowbeds, route surveys and permits in transit countries.
