Transit cargo through Kazakhstan grew 13.1% to 32.6 Mt in the first nine months of 2026, Deputy Transport Minister Maksat Kaliakparov told a government meeting on 13 October 2026.

Rail carried 241.7 Mt of freight in January – September, up 3% year on year; road carried 270.4 Mt, up 5.6%. The physical volume index for transport and warehousing reached 107.2%. The strongest results came from Almaty Region, Shymkent, Zhetysu Region and North Kazakhstan Region. New rail lines are being built and existing sections upgraded to raise volumes and cut transit times on the main routes. The sector’s output is forecast to reach KZT 13.1 trillion by year-end (+9.2%).

For wagon, container and flatcar forwarding, this means growing demand for transit moves via Khorgos/Altynkol and Dostyk — Alashankou, including to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Iran and Turkmenistan, and for domestic legs to Almaty, Astana and the regions of Kazakhstan.
