KazAvtoZhol: special plates for trucks from 25 t and limits on public roads

Kazakhstan has proposed special-format state number plates for vehicles with a payload of 25 tonnes and above and limits on their use of public roads. Kursiv Media reported this on 2 November 2026, citing KazAvtoZhol board chair Darkhan Imanashev.

He said traffic intensity and fleet mix have changed sharply over the past decade: trucks of more than 200 tonnes are being recorded, damaging pavement. The proposals aim to tighten control of heavy vehicles. He did not specify the restriction mechanism, plate-issuance rules or timelines — these remain working-group ideas for now.

Road-building rules (regional bitumen grades, PG technology) and longer contractor warranties backed by bank guarantees are also under discussion.

For oversized and heavy moves this is a cue to lock in route, special permit and axle loads early. Gateway Logistics runs 45 t / 5-axle and 90 t / 10-axle lowbeds and 145 m³ road-trains on the China — Kazakhstan — Caspian — Caucasus — Türkiye corridors.
