Middle Corridor via Georgia: Central Asia is the main user

PMC Research (PMCG) analysed transit through Georgia for 2018–2025. By 2025 total transit reached 13.7 million tonnes (peak 15.1 million tonnes in 2024). Middle Corridor flows through Georgia doubled since 2018 to 4.6 million tonnes in 2025 (high of 5.0 million tonnes in 2022). East–West held about 69.7% of transit.

The market takeaway (BMG / Pravda Georgia, 13 Sep 2026): over 40% of westbound cargo goes to Central Asian countries; China’s share of Georgian transit is under 1%. PMCG consultant Grigol Pantsulaya: this is more a regional Central Asia–Europe/Türkiye corridor than a China–Europe trunk.

For OOG the practical point is who pays and where the mass sits. Contracts often live in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan or Azerbaijan — not “in Shanghai”. A lowbed and curtainsider road train via the Caspian and Georgia starts from the regional shipper: permits, escorts and a ferry slot for that cargo, not a China–Europe slogan.

A cue on the structure of transit through Georgia.
