ADY Astara terminal: about +30% transshipment on the Iran border

In the first eight months of 2026 the ADY terminal at Astara, on Iranian territory, handled more than 537,000 tonnes — about 30% above the same period in 2025 (ADY press service). August alone: 76,000 t versus 51,000 t a year earlier (~+50%).
The terminal is part of the North–South corridor. Construction continues; once it reaches full capacity, 3.5–4 million tonnes a year are expected. For project and out-of-gauge chains China–Kazakhstan–Caspian–Caucasus / Iran, the signal is that the southern rail interface with Iran is gaining volume alongside the east–west Middle Corridor. Moving a lowbed or curtainsider road train and agreeing a route through the Iranian segment still need early permit planning and a connection to the rail terminal — more tonnes at the border do not remove bottlenecks on the road legs.
