Lowboy and tandem — what each is for
| Lowboy / трал | Tandem / тандем | |
|---|---|---|
| Job | Length, a low load height, cargo you cannot simply put on a deck. | Spread mass across axles when a concentrated weight will not pass the road or the ferry. |
| Typical cargo | Vessels, long steel, equipment under a height cap. | Heavy transformers and other cargo with a high load on a small footprint. |
| Geometry | Lowbed, often extendable. You buy road clearance and length. | Extra axles or a dolly. You buy axle load, not “more length”. |
| Limit | By itself it does not save a bridge if the weight still sits on two or three axles. | It does not replace a low frame: a tall load on a tandem still will not clear an overpass. |
